What Helps Against Brown Spots On The Neck?

Dark or brown patches of skin on the neck, under the armpits or other parts of the body can impair the sense of beauty.

What helps against brown spots on the neck?

If there are dark discolorations or brownish patches of skin on the neck, many people find this annoying, as the suspicion of poor hygiene quickly becomes loud. But discoloration and skin spots on the neck and other areas of the body have nothing to do with dirt!

Discoloration and patches of skin on the neck can be a skin disease!

There is a scientific name for patches of skin on the neck and other places: Acanthosis Nigricans.

When the skin changes, the skin changes color on the neck or neck, in the bends of the joints, under the armpits, along the groin or on other parts of the body, for example on the hands or wrists.

The discoloration usually begins yellowish and then gets darker and darker until it becomes almost gray or dirty brown. The skin then often looks unwashed.

Men and women are equally affected by the skin changes. Anyone who observes such discoloration of the skin or patches of skin on the neck should have a dermatologist clarify whether a serious skin disease is the cause.

Only when the diagnosis “Acanthosis Nigricans” has been made can you go home again with peace of mind: it is neither harmful, nor fatal, nor contagious. At most uncomfortable and aesthetically unattractive – but you can do something about it!

Causes of the skin spots on the neck

The causes of such skin spots on the neck are all hormonal, which is why the next visit to the doctor should lead to an endocrinologist. Your dermatologist will likely give you a referral right away. The most common causes of such skin changes are

  • Obesity,
  • Diabetes 2 and
  • an increased level of insulin in the blood.

Diabetes 2 is a form of diabetes that is caused by poor diet and obesity, in contrast to “normal” diabetes (type 1), which has nothing to do with obesity.

An increased body weight leads to a disturbed hormonal balance. The higher your body weight, the greater the chance of developing hyperinsulinemia, which is where too much insulin is secreted.

Those who have fed themselves to obesity must expect such consequences. A healthy, balanced diet and a normal body weight prevents such diseases and problems for life!

Skin lesion therapy

The skin changes can worsen if left untreated, making the patches of skin on the neck darker and more noticeable. “Only” dark discoloration can also change the surface of the skin. It feels velvety at first, but then becomes more and more uneven and can crust and start to wet.

The skin areas that are disturbed in this way can then easily become inflamed – and heal poorly or not at all. Therefore, you should definitely do something about the fact that the skin’s complexion continues to deteriorate and the skin spots on the neck develop into a health problem instead of a blemish!

Here are the steps you should take:

Weight reduction

If the dermatologist determines that it is not a malignant skin disease and the endocrinologist confirms that the hormonal balance is disturbed by being overweight, it should quickly become clear what the only therapy is: weight loss!

Excessive body weight not only stresses the skin, other body functions, joints, organs and, last but not least, the cardiovascular system are unnecessarily stressed by being overweight: life expectancy falls.

Dark spots on the skin should therefore not be the only reason to go on a diet! Nutritional advice is also paid for by statutory health insurances as part of the prevention services if the advice is provided by medical specialists. You usually won’t find that in the gym.

The term “nutritionist” is not protected in Germany, so the health insurers do not pay for all services. Inquire beforehand about the qualification of the nutritionist and about the possibility of how the health insurance company will (usually only partially) cover the costs!

Your doctor can also help you and give you recommendations.

Treat type 2 diabetes

If the overweight is so great that one speaks of obesity and diabetes 2 has developed from it, the doctor must absolutely stop diabetes mellitus! Diabetes not only results in skin changes like these skin spots on the neck, these are really the least “damage”!

Type 2 diabetes leads to heart attacks, strokes, damage to the retina, kidney damage and also depression. It absolutely has to be treated!

There are several medications that the doctor can prescribe for diabetes. That doesn’t mean that you have to get insulin injections from now on! There are now effective tablets too! Together with your doctor, you will have to find out what the best therapy is for you.
