Sleeping With A Bra – Is That Harmful?

The defenders of the bra admit that wearing it for more than 7 consecutive hours is not good. It is also not recommended at night to allow proper lymph circulation and avoid discomfort.

Sleeping with a bra - is it harmful?

Healthy or Harmful? Sleeping at night with or without a bra is certainly a matter of personal preference. 80% of women sleep with a bra, but is it also healthy? You can find the answer in this post.

Is sleeping with a bra harmful?

Every woman has personal preferences and has to decide for herself what is more comfortable for her, but this post is about what is healthier.

A study carried out in France by Prof. Jean-Denis Rouillon confirmed that a brassiere does not have much of an effect.

For example, it cannot prevent the breasts from losing their firmness and sagging over the years. Rather, the study points out that wearing a bra promotes unsightly stretch marks and the loss of firmness.

But there are also voices that point to the usefulness of the bra: For example, for those women who have large breasts and feel more comfortable with them.

The secret of a comfortable bra is to choose the right size and shape. According to statistics, this is only the case with a few women.

Often they are too small and too tight and consequently squeeze the breasts together, which disrupts blood circulation. So if you don’t want to do without a bra, always choose the right size and a comfortable bra – that’s crucial!

Sleep with or without a bra – that is the question

Does the bra cause insomnia?

In general, experts recommend avoiding the bra at night.

In a medical-anthropological study, for example, it is pointed out that the bra compresses lymph nodes and channels and thus pollutants cannot be correctly filtered and excreted.

It should also be remembered that many of these processes are carried out at night. This can lead to fluid retention. In the long term, these could possibly also lead to cysts, lumps or tumors. That risk exists.

The bra can not only compress the breasts but also parts of the armpits and thus prevent the lymph from releasing pollutants.

This is compounded by another problem: the bra’s material increases the temperature, which is not good in the long term.

A pre-cancerous breast has a higher temperature than a healthy one. It is therefore not recommended to encourage this at night.

In addition, the breasts need some movement so that the lymph can circulate. Those who defend the use of the bra usually add that it should not be worn for more than 7 hours a day.

Wearing a bra at night is also not recommended. So if you are used to wearing a bra at night, you should at least make sure that it is not more than 7 hours at a time.

But there are also  special models for sleeping. What’s the difference here?

These bras are the right shape to separate, not squeeze, the breasts. They are made of cotton without hoops or chopsticks and also allow the skin to breathe normally.

These special bras protect and allow a certain freedom of movement.

Do not forget…

The most important thing is to choose the right size. Uncomfortable bras with seams that squeeze or pinch the breasts and bras with fillings or rings should also be avoided.

This is crucial. But it is even better to do without the bra at night – whenever possible
