diet

When you read the word “diet” you may immediately think of a restrictive diet that bans many foods. But this does not have to be the case.

A wide variety of ingredients and dishes that have a very long tradition are used in Indian cuisine. Here are  proteins and carbohydrates are not mixed and carefully selected ingredients for individual dishes.

Whole grain rice is the basis of the Indian diet. This is prepared together with a lot of vegetables and some fruit (oranges, apples, lemons and grapefruit).

  • 3 meals a day are recommended. If necessary, you can have a snack between meals or a bite to eat before going to bed if you are hungry.
  • However, it should be a small piece of fruit or a low-fat yogurt.
  • In addition, it is advisable to chew all food well (around 100 times) in order to achieve complete digestion. This means that the food does not stay in the stomach as long.
  • During the day, on this diet, you drink 2 liters of water and green tea (as much as you want, but without sugar or other sweeteners).
  • Exercise should not be missing in this diet either:  a daily 40-minute walk is recommended.

What speaks for or against the Indian diet?

    indian spices

Many use this diet for weight loss,  because it can lose up to 4 kg in two weeks.

However, this diet is very monotonous, requires strong willpower and is not recommended for people with low blood pressure.

The  Indian diet should not be followed for more than 15 days as it does not contain all the essential vitamins and nutrients. For example, you could be deficient in vitamins A, B12 and D, or iron and calcium.

Most important in this diet is the combination of foods. For example, you can have lasagna or pasta with vegetables, an egg omelette with onions and tomatoes, rice with vegetables, red meat (not beef) with lettuce, etc.

Rice is the basis in the Indian diet. Various herbs and spice mixtures typical for India can be used for seasoning: for example cardamom, curry, cinnamon, cayenne pepper or saffron.
With these spices the  body temperature is raised and so more fat can be burned.

Examples of dishes in the Indian diet

For those who like to cook and do not want to be bored with this diet, typical Indian dishes are recommended, with which the desired goal can then be achieved. So the diet is not so monotonous or restrictive.
