Caring for the eye area: 6 tips

Our eye area or the skin around it is thin and lacks sebum glands. Therefore, it is important to protect them from harsh sunlight, toxins, and other factors that accelerate the skin’s aging process.

You don’t need expensive anti-aging creams to care for the eye area . While it cannot be ruled out that many of them are effective, they are not the only way to properly treat the skin.

Unfortunately, the skin in this area can show early signs of aging. Because it is finer in this area and therefore care is required to keep it tight and make it look young.

A common difficulty is that we do not protect our eye area from aggressive ultraviolet radiation (UV) and other environmental influences. Because of this, it often has fine wrinkles, sagging, or other aesthetic problems. Below we give you a few tips on how you can counteract these.

Tips for caring for the eye area

Usually, imperfections in the eye contour can be seen. These include, for example, dark circles under the eyes, fine lines and swellings (bags under the eyes). However, there are a few methods that you can easily implement to take care of your eye area and all of this without having to invest a lot of money.

1. Make sure you have enough moisture to care for the eye area

What you should pay attention to in any case is that the area around the eyes is adequately hydrated. If this area becomes dry, it quickly loses its flexibility and wrinkles appear. This is because there are no sebum glands, which usually naturally provide moisture.

Hence, you should choose a good moisturizer; preferably one with mild ingredients that won’t irritate the eyes. Better yet, use one that is specifically designed for the eye area, as regular face creams may not be suitable.

Other alternatives are:

  • a fresh cucumber
  • essential rose oil combined with coconut oil
  • Shea butter
  • Aloe vera

2. Massage the area around your eyes

A light massage around the eyes can help prevent various problems as it stimulates blood flow and helps reduce imperfections such as bags under the eyes, dark circles and wrinkles.

Massages are also particularly effective at draining excess fluids and reducing swelling.

Application:

  • First, dampen your fingers with some moisturizer or oil.
  • Then do a light massage with your fingertips.
  • Rub in the cream or oil for two to three minutes, applying gentle pressure.
  • Repeat the massage every night before bed.

Note : The massage is more effective if you do it from the outside in, i.e. towards the bags under your eyes. This is where the lacrimal glands are located, which moisturize the eye.

3. Sleep well

A good night’s sleep can also be seen on your face. So if you don’t get enough sleep, you will notice bags and dark circles under the eyes appear. It is therefore particularly important to ensure enough relaxation at least eight hours a day without interruption.

4. Eat a healthy diet

Diet also plays an essential role in the health of our skin. Even if you can maintain them to a certain extent with external products, you should also do this from the inside. So in order to avoid dark circles, skin lines and other changes, you have to pay attention to your diet.

In addition to minerals, omega-3 fatty acids and amino acids, nutrients such as vitamins A, C and E favor the regeneration process of the cells and help to keep the skin firm and moisturized. The following foods are particularly helpful:

  • Dried fruits and seeds
  • fresh fruits and vegetables
  • lean meat
  • blue fish
  • olive oil

5. Use sun protection every day, also around the eyes!

One of the factors that affects skin health the most is exposure to the sun. However, while its influence may not be noticed immediately, sagging skin and wrinkles will appear over time. In the worst case, it can even lead to skin cancer.

For this reason, you should use sunscreen to care for the area around your eyes. Its ingredients minimize the effects of the sun’s rays and prevent possible drought.

6. Take off your make-up every day

Going to sleep with makeup on can negatively affect the contour of your eyes. First of all, residues of mascara can darken the area around the eyes, creating unsightly dark circles.

Furthermore, the cosmetic ingredients prevent the skin from being supplied with oxygen, which promotes the formation of wrinkles.

In order to keep your eye area fresh and supple, you should always remove your make-up, preferably every day. Almond, coconut or olive oil, for example, are also suitable for this.

If you also notice wrinkles around the eyes or simply want to avoid dark circles, you should definitely implement these six tips. As you can see, they are easy to use and have a positive effect.
