Beer in the household is certainly a dream of many men. Cleaning with beer, cleaning and taking care of the household? It really works ! So, first of all, you should know how beer is actually made and how you can benefit from it:

There are many regional recipes and customs for making beer. Even chestnuts are malted to make chestnut beer!

To make beer, malt, water and hops are mixed together and fermented. Yeast converts the carbohydrates dissolved from the starch in the malt into ethanol, i.e. alcohol and carbon dioxide.

Beer in the household

The carbon dioxide later provides the refreshing tingling sensation as carbonic acid under pressure in the barrel or bottle.

Depending on which yeast is used, a different type of beer is created, which is divided into “top-fermented” and “bottom-fermented”. The fermentation does not continue “indefinitely”, but is naturally “capped” from 12% by the death of the yeast cultures.

More cannot be achieved through natural fermentation, as a higher alcohol content kills the alcohol-producing yeasts.

There are two methods of making non-alcoholic beer. Either the fermentation is interrupted at a maximum alcohol content of 0.5% or the ethanol is removed from the finished beer.

Depending on the process, non-alcoholic beer still contains a residual amount of alcohol that must be stated on the bottle.

Marinate meat

Basic kitchen knowledge is to ensure that a roast becomes nice and crispy if it is doused with beer while it is cooking in the oven or on the grill. But have you tried to marinate the grilled meat directly in it?

Season the marinade with pepper and salt and onion rings and marinate your grilled meat, for example thickly cut neck steaks, in the refrigerator for a few hours. You will see what a delicious aroma it gives!

When grilling, it is also delicious to regularly pour or brush the food with a little beer. Even on the grill, beer gives a delicious crust and spices the meat wonderfully aromatic. And an ice-cold beer – alcohol-free of course!

Liquid fertilizer

Before you pour a stale beer down the drain, go out to the balcony or terrace and give your plants a sip! Less recommended for indoor plants, because the smell of beer can linger for a long time in moist potting soil.

Snail trap

Another use in the garden is filling snail traps.

Snails love the smell and are attracted to it. Once they land in the well-filled container, they drown in their intoxication.

Empty tins, which you dig in to just below the edge in the vegetable patch, are suitable as traps. Empty regularly!

Cleaning of wooden furniture

Wooden garden furniture, in particular, collects unsightly dirt that is difficult to remove. In spring, a layer of dirt has often formed over winter, which is quite stubborn.

Try beer to remove this dirt! To do this, you soak a sturdy rag with beer and rub the wooden furniture with it. The alcohol contained in the brew enhances the cleaning effect.

Household beer for cleaning purposes

Of course, this not only works with wooden furniture, but also with wooden decking. If there is still an expired crate of beer from last summer left in the garden shed, you have found the ideal use in spring to avoid having to dispose of the beer unused!

Hair setting

Mix a 0.33l can or bottle with lukewarm water so that you get about 1l of the finished mixture. The lukewarm water drives the carbon dioxide out of the beer, which is why it doesn’t have to be stale beer in this case. If you take the beer straight out of the fridge, mix it with hot water. The temperature should be comfortable.

After shampooing, soak your hair with the beer-water mixture. You don’t have to rinse the hair afterwards, the smell will dissipate and you will be left with shiny hair with a nice grip.

Ideal for fine, straight hair that always slips out of barrettes and updos!
