Creative Sleeping Places For Your Pet

In stores the same sleeping places for pets are offered: the classic cat basket or the large dog basket. Do handicrafts for your pet yourself!

Creative sleeping places for your pet

The sleeping places of our pets are often not very nice and rarely fit into our facility. But you are not forced to buy such ugly mass-produced beds , because you can make one for your pet yourself – which also fits your interior!

Requirements for sleeping places for pets

Pet beds should primarily please your pet, not you. That probably explains the abundance of functional, but not very pretty beds that can be bought in stores. But most of the time these don’t match the interior, just your animal.

So if you want to create sleeping places yourself, you should of course not first look at the optics, but to see whether they meet the requirements of your animal. Sleeping places are places of retreat for your animal, so they should offer your animal friend some privacy, a wall to lean on and some darkness.

Cats usually find their sleeping places in cardboard boxes or on higher places, dogs love to lie with their backs against a wall. Observe what your pet’s habits are and take them into account when doing handicrafts.

Make sure that the upholstery of the sleeping area is washable ! We have the following ideas that can be adapted to any facility:

Sleeping places for cats

Sleeping den for cats from a trash

A wastepaper basket on its side is an ideal sleeping den for cats. Put a soft pillow in it and you’re ready to sleep! The dimensions of chair cushions or sofa cushions are suitable as cushions, so that you don’t have to sew anything yourself and can get everything in the furniture store when you shop.

Choose the wastepaper basket to match your interior: made of metal, wicker, plastic, natural, colorful, … All you have to do is put it on its side and invite your cat into its new sleeping den.

You can prevent the wastepaper basket from rolling away with two pencils or pieces of wood that you attach to the side of the grain of paper or simply put next to it.

Bedside table or chest of drawers

A small bedside table next to the bed is an ideal retreat for your pet. All you have to do is cut an opening in the door for your cat or small dog to get in.

Place a pillow on the cabinet floor and a treat with it. You will be amazed how quickly your pet will take the new place!

For larger dogs, you can build a place to sleep in a dresser. Ideally, the opening is on the side of the chest of drawers so as not to destroy the beautiful look. This works the same way with a bedside table.

Old suitcase

An old suitcase from the flea market also makes a nice, elegant place to sleep for your pet. The different suitcase sizes result in sleeping places for cats and dogs alike. Make the bottom of the suitcase soft and you will see how these sleeping places resonate!

Cats like it when you close the lid of the suitcase lightly. To do this, attach a stick to the side of the case, on which the lid rests, so that your cat sleeps in a cave, but can never accidentally “pack” itself in the case.

Sleeping box for dog or cat

Fruit crate

Fruit or wine boxes are very nice places to sleep for smaller pets. Either you leave the boxes in the original or you paint them to match your interior. A color-matching pillow is also a way of adapting the sleeping space to your interior.

Storage beds tidy up the room

Shelf cube

You are probably familiar with these shelving systems, which consist of individual cubes that can be stacked as desired. Such a cube also makes a stylish place to sleep for more modern facilities. Simply equipped with a cushion, it also serves as a storage space or side table for you.

Drawers

Large drawers from old cupboards or chests of drawers make great dog beds. Perhaps you will find a disused cupboard in the bulky waste, in whose drawer your dog would feel comfortable? Softly padded with a pillow and repainted if necessary, your dog will soon be slumbering in a particularly decorative way.

Wooden barrel

Wooden barrels come in different sizes. Depending on the size of your animal, you can choose such a wooden barrel and turn it into a sleeping place. There are two ways to do this:

  • Halved in the middle (lengthways or crossways)
  • Provided with an opening at the top / bottom

The first variant is well suited for larger dogs, the second variant is great for cats and smaller dogs with a greater need to retreat.

With all the hobbyist joy: in the end, your pet has to be satisfied with its new bed. So it may be that you build several sleeping places until your fur animal accepts it.
