1. Spicy food for a stuffy nose

Spicy foods have an expectorant effect,  so they can open the airways and make it easier to breathe through the nose.

The effect does not last very long, but a little help, even if only for a short time, is always in demand.

You can easily spice up different foods.  Use wasabi, chilli, or hot paprika for this. In addition, it is recommended to eat raw onions and garlic.

2. Massage for nasal congestion

The sinuses are located on the side of the nasal septum. This is where phlegm usually accumulates when you have a cold.

A circular massage in this area  can help loosen it up and ease the discomfort.

How is that done?

  • Use the index and middle fingers and massage the area above the eyes, at the level of the eyebrows, in a circular motion with your fingertips.
  • After 20 to 30 seconds, massage the area on the side of the nose and under the eyes.
  • Finally, massage your cheeks with your thumb. Make circular movements outwards.

    3. Control your breathing

Have you ever had closed ears that you could open again by holding your nose closed? Then you know this technique, which can also be used for a stuffy nose.

    How is that done?

    • Take a deep breath and hold your nose. Then you try to expel the air while walking  in the same position  until it becomes uncomfortable.
    • At that moment you take your hands away and continue to breathe normally. Sit in a chair to do this breathing exercise. You will see your nose clear in a few minutes.

      4. Old home remedy: saline solution

In this case, there are two options: you can buy a saline solution from the pharmacy or you can make one yourself.

Both options are equally effective, but we always prefer homemade home remedies. Especially when it is so easy to make.

All you have to do is bring the water to a boil, add a little salt and let the water get cold.

As soon as you have prepared the saline solution, you  pour it into a syringe and inject the liquid into your nostrils. This is a quick way to clear your nose and find relief.

      5. Expectorant peppermint

Peppermint is popular for colds to clear the airways because it contains acetic acid and ascorbic acid.

These work extremely well when inhaled or in a classic ointment that clears the airways within a few minutes.

      6. Hot shower

The steam from a hot shower also clears mucus from the airways  and makes breathing easier. If the hot water gets straight into your nose, it goes even faster.

Don’t worry that taking a shower will make your condition worse. As soon as you’re done, just dry yourself off well and dress warmly.

You can also use it to get rid of pathogens that spread when you sneeze.

Don’t forget these tips because sooner or later you may need them to do something about a nasal congestion.
