Millennial art

Feng Shui: Millennial Art
Feng Shui is a thousand-year-old art that seeks harmony and balance.

Feng Shui means “wind and water”. This millennial Chinese art is based on the theory that we have to design spaces consciously and harmoniously. Because in this way the harmony is also transferred to the people who are in it, and improves their state of mind and well-being.

Chi, the life energy, is particularly important in this context. The chi can be hindered by objects in the room, wrong orientations, etc. It is therefore important to design or change the various rooms in such a way that the life energy can flow properly and enables a positive ambience.

In Feng Shui there are therefore certain elements and concepts for designing rooms. This also includes Yin and Yang, the duality of balance, which consists of opposites.

In truth, these two opposing concepts form a unit and complement each other. Examples are: north and south, winter and summer, man and woman, etc. You surely know the  symbol for yin and yang:  a circle that consists of two parts that fit together harmoniously. We are talking about the two poles of the life energy Chi.

Feng Shui for a positive atmosphere at home

You will then find simple recommendations to improve the atmosphere at home and make it harmonious with this thousand-year-old art. Not only yin and yang but also other aspects have to be taken into account.

1. The five elements

Chi is expressed in terms of the five elements: water, fire, earth, metal and wood. It is therefore important to combine these elements correctly in order to achieve harmony:

  • For example, you can put an aquarium in the living room so that the element of water is present.
  • In addition, wooden flower boxes are perfect for integrating this element as well.
  • Good lighting symbolizes the presence of fire in the room.
  • Different objects (made of silver, gold or other metals) give you the opportunity to represent this element as well.
  • Now all that’s missing is the earth, for example in the flower pots. You can of course also use a clay jug or decorative elements made of clay or loam.

2. The entrance to the house is particularly important!

Feng Shui in the house entrance
The entrance or reception room lets positive or negative energies into the house.

The entrance to the house lets the chi into the house. But both negative and positive energies find their way in, which is  why it is particularly important to design the house entrance accordingly.

With that in mind, there should be items here that welcome all those entering. It is perfect to decorate this space with plants and flowers or family photos. You should also make sure that all colors are soft and pleasant to allow light and balance.

Proper lighting is also very important. The chi does not flow properly in dark, shady places.

3. The chi in the kitchen

The chi flows through the whole house, also through all objects and items that are in it. So when you cook, the life energy is found in the foods and dishes you prepare. Therefore, you should guarantee that the flow of energy is optimal throughout the house.

So note the following:

  • The fire (oven, stove) and water (sink, dishwasher) should not be directly opposite.
  • You can harmonize this comparison by incorporating the element of wood. It is therefore a good idea, for example, to put wooden boxes with flowers in the kitchen or to use the color green for various details.
  • On the other hand, the fire (stove, oven) should not be directly after the kitchen door.

4. Feng Shui in the bedroom

Feng Shui in the bedroom
In the bedroom, the harmony of Feng Shui ensures better sleep.

A good night’s sleep is essential for health and performance. That is why the alignment of the bed in the bedroom is particularly important so that the chi can flow positively and provide peace.

Note the following tips:

  • The bed should be as far from the bedroom door as possible.
  • It is also not advisable to use large lamps or a fan over the bed. Because these could be interpreted as a threat.
  • On the other hand, mirrors that may be present should not reflect the sleeping person.
  • Remember that the bed shouldn’t face the same direction as the door.

These tips will enable you to use Feng Shui to create harmony in your home. This oriental philosophy, which is thousands of years old, can give you much more advice to find balance and to let the chi flow positively. Maybe it can help you improve your state of mind and be more balanced. Try it yourself!
