Lighting with decorative lamps ensures greater well-being and thus transforms any room, no matter how simple, into a cozy home.

5 original ideas for decorative lamps

You can easily make decorative lamps yourself at home. You don’t even need expensive or fancy materials to manufacture them, but above all creativity!

Therefore, we would like to inspire you to create your own lamp project and decorate your living space with it.

The best thing about the ideas for decorative lamps presented here is that you can vary them very easily and convert them either as a ceiling lamp, table lamp or as a floor lamp.

In the following we would like to present you with 5 original suggestions that you can modify as you wish. We assure you that you don’t need a lot of accessories and you don’t have to be an expert!

Just installing the new lamp could be a little more complicated.

How to make your own decorative lamps

1. Paper lamp with glitter

self-decorated paper lamp with glitter

If you’re looking for a glamorous project that is super easy to do, this might be the one for you.

First of all, you need a paper lamp in the shape and color that you like best.

To decorate, you’ll also need glue (spray or liquid glue if possible) and a large can of glitter. We recommend that you choose the glitter in the same color as the paper. This makes the result nicer and more uniform.

And this is how it works:

  • First, find an old newspaper that you spread out as a base and place your paper lamp on it.
  • Then spray or brush the entire surface of the lamp with glue.
  • Then sprinkle the glitter generously on it and distribute it as evenly as possible.
  • Let the whole thing dry for 5 to 10 minutes. Then gently hold the lamp by one corner and shake it so that non-stick glitter falls off.
  • Next, check to see if there are any spots with no glitter. Put a little more glue on these “empty” spots and sprinkle them again. The aim is to get a kind of homemade disco ball.

In our opinion , these glitter lamps  are particularly beautiful  in white or pastel tones. In our example, we used pink glitter on a pastel pink lamp.

You can of course also use two different colors of glitter, for example white and silver.

2. Cage and pearl necklaces

If you had birds as pets a while ago and have not used the cage at home, then this idea might be interesting for you. Now you finally have a meaningful use for it!

  • First, clean the cage well and paint or spray it with a color of your choice.
  • Once the paint has dried well, you can start attaching pearl necklaces with silicone. These can be plastic, wood, or whatever you like.
  • If you want, can you paint them beforehand, maybe even in a strong contrasting color? The cage lampshade is most beautiful with matt colors.

3. Cloud lamp

As a third idea for decorative lamps, we would like to introduce you to the cloud lamp from the cover picture. These are very fashionable right now. In principle, all you need is a simple white paper lamp, glue and cotton wool.

  • Stick the cotton balls on the paper lamp until a kind of cloud forms.
  • However, you have to make sure that the cotton is not too dense and that the light can still shine through.

Another possible variant is to use feathers instead of cotton wool. If you want, you can also perfect the whole thing with a string of lights.

We would like to emphasize that it is not necessary to always use the typical round paper lamp for this type of project. There are many other shapes that can make your lamp even more beautiful and original.

Remember: it’s all about being creative and making your own personal, original decoration.

4. Cheese grater

For the particularly brave among you, we have a really original suggestion: use an old cheese or food grater (see photo)! This decorative lamp is modern and rustic at the same time.

All you need is a stainless steel grater and a can of spray paint (for a special effect, we recommend matt black, so your lamp looks like it is made of old cast iron).

  • Spray on a few coats of paint (let them dry in between). Simple, isn’t it?
  • Once the paint is dry, hang the lamp in a convenient place. How about the kitchen?

5. Toilet paper rolls and cord

Another way to make your own creative lamps is with toilet paper rolls and cord. It might sound strange at first, but it’s very original. That is how it goes:

  • To do this, simply cover the cardboard tubes with a layer of silicone and connect them with a fine cord or cord.
  • Once connected, let the silicone dry for at least 10 to 15 minutes.
  • Now you can make any shape you want out of it by fixing the rollers with a point of silicone.

Finally, we would like to point out that all of these lamps give rather little light. Therefore, they are not suitable as reading lamps. However, if you want to create a great atmosphere in the room for more well-being, then you are exactly right.
